Coconut Oil – It’s great for massage!

As most of my clients know, I strive to use high quality, organic products in my practice. For many years I’ve been using organic jojoba for a massage oil. However, in recent years, I’ve been prompted to re-evaluate my jojoba usage. It is a wonderful oil (actually it’s a liquid wax) and I love using it. Unfortunately, due to drought, jojoba is increasingly difficult to grow in it’s native area of the southern United States and Mexico. Rather than to add to the demand of a struggling crop, I’ve decided to make a switch in my choice massage oil.

Enter organic coconut oil!

Coconut oil is amazing. It feels silky not greasy, washes out of fabric easily, smells delicious, and works well for massage. And like jojoba, it won’t clog your pores. Allergies and sensitives are an important area to consider when picking a massage oil. Thankfully, coconut allergies are rare so it is considered a safe, non-sensitizing oil to use in bodywork.

The most important part of making a massage oil switch is the general consensus from my clients. So far it has been very positive!

A closing note:
For those of you whom prefer jojoba oil, I will strive to keep some on hand for special requests.
